Features
1.1.x releases were focused on mnemonics. This was not planned. I happened to watch Bankless interview with Rainbow guys showing off how they are handling mnemonics. And I thought we can, at worst match that in two weeks. Core layer code was done is two weeks. However to put it all together with UI took over a month. web3wallet can now derive accounts, variable seeds lengths. Reorder, hide unused account. Custom derivation paths. Easily copy address from anywhere. Export private keys in different formats. Search all mnemonics and accounts. Progressive UI complexity disclosure. There was myriad of performance improvements, bug fixes, UI improvements across the app. Metadata cache size decreased by ~66%, load speed by ~3x. Migrated to new improved wallets service. Streamed lined a lot of UI and more.
Metamask account switching UI clunky. You can’t easily hide accounts. You can’t reorder them at all. Uniswap wallet can’t even handle multiple mnemonics. We are only major wallet that supports custom derivation paths and salting (in 1.1.3).
This is the ultimate strategy match all features of all competitors combined. While keeping UI extremely user friendly. And then adding unique feature on top. (eg custom paths & salting)
1.3.x Builds will be focused on Uniswap. Universal router, create and manage Uniswap pools. Basically try build better Uniswap experience than wallet. And make a noise about it.
1.4.x Generic DAO support. Support for all standard DAO contracts. This should hopefully allow us to shill in all the DAOs discords 🤞.
1.5.x Wallet connect to be able to connect to any dapp.
Above three features do not neatly fit into single release. Can not necessarily be shipped progressively. We have already started working on tonne of smaller features that are shipping fast and furious.
I think once we reach 1.5.x we can start credibly making the case that web3wallet is the best wallet out there. We are aiming to be there at the end of February.
Marketing
Ideally what we would like to do it to market as the features come out. I think there could be pretty good article / videos / tweets comparing mnemonics handling between web3wallet & all other popular wallets. Sadly reality is there are only so many hours in the day. Even simple video like this
can take better part of the day to produce. Plus the pay off is not guaranteed. Tough choices had to be made. Absolute priority is to get to 1.5 by end of February, everything else is secondary.
However there is Clout Goblin effort. It was frozen recently but the aim is to have 1.0 operational by the end of January. I think it is crucial and if it works pay off in terms of marketing will be of cosmic proportions.
Pod
Pod has also been a victim of ruthless prioritization. However this changes beginning new year. We think we figured a way to produce it in fraction of the time. New format with a secret surprise launching in January. Subscribe.
Android
Yet another victim of ruthless prioritization. It is almost there. It needs like two weeks of my time. But if I think it is two weeks. It will probably end up being four. Android will be focus for 1.6.x
Project X
There is one more things that has high probability of failure. But if it works it will be utterly transformational for sons of crypto. It is time boxed for two weeks of work. Can’t talk about it yet. Could be big.
Conclusion
We are not doing as much marketing as we would like, we are not posting as many updates as we would like. We are not engaging we community as much as we would like. All of those are very important. But right now we have not option but to ruthlessly prioritize getting that fabled “So good they can’t ignore you” stage.
See you on the other side 🖖
Awesome update!
